Contemporary furniture maker and designer
Website Design Sussex |
Welcome to the web site of furniture designer and maker Barry Michael Murphy. Barry has been a professional furniture maker since 1982. Following his apprenticeship in engineers' wood pattern-making he moved to the United States where he set up his own pattern-making business, adventuring into furniture making when time allowed. Please be advised this site is featured in an email scam. There are no job placements available. Returning to the UK he worked for four years as a harpsichord maker at the now famous center for early music at Finchcock's near Goudhurst, Kent. In 1980 Barry established his current workshops in Windmill Hill restoring and reproducing traditional English, country furniture. Over time, his own design ideas needed expression and, for the past five years, this has increasingly become the core of his business. Influenced by the Shaker Tradition, the Arts and Crafts Movement, and
the sparseness of Japanese design, Barry's unique pieces, with their clean
lines and precise execution, are distinctive. His superb knowledge of
woods, along with an understanding of proportion, form, and function,
set his work apart.
